Roses

Filed under: Black and White, Nature — Kristen @ 8:22 pm

My husband brought me some flowers out of the blue last week(along with some Peppermint Joe-Joe’s from Trader Joe’s, which I love, love, love, love. It’s a good thing for my health that they are only available once a year!).

I decided to try taking some pictures of them, but my camera lens wasn’t all that cooperative. If I try to zoom too close to something, it refuses to take a picture.

The red rose looked kind of weird in black and white, but I kind of like the way this yellow one looks without color.

I have to say, flowers are easier to photograph than kids in many ways! They don’t wiggle, they don’t cry, they don’t make bad faces, and they don’t mind you putting them in a bunch of different places to try to find the best light. But, I still think I prefer taking pictures of people.

So, apparently my lens is worthless.

This information came courtesy of a friend of mine(my sister-in-law’s sister, actually) who owns much more wonderful camera equipment than I do. I found this to be strangely encouraging because if I’ve been able to take some decent pictures with my worthless lens, I should be able to take some very nice pictures once I get a decent lens.

I just am using my kit lens right now(the one that came with the camera), but I’d like to get one with wider aperture settings, and also one that has image stabilization, because I almost always shoot without the flash.

Unfortunately, a lens like that costs between $300 and $400, and I only have about $95 of “fun money”(which is money that my husband and I each set aside to spend as we wish…it’s usually extra money from side jobs or from gifts). My dear husband, who would buy the world for me if I would let him, is willing to take the money from our sofa fund to buy a lens, but I’m not going to let him do that. We need a sofa more than I need a lens!

Maybe when the tax return comes…

And so is this.

But this, which my son did, is not so good. Hee-hee.

I have a new niece!

Filed under: Babies, Black and White — Kristen @ 2:02 am

I’m so excited! This is the first baby to be born in my family since I got my SLR. Incidentally, I am so annoyed that I had a point and shoot and wasn’t very good at photography when I had my own babies. Ah well…at least there is another baby in the family that I can practice on now. And, there’s another niece or nephew coming in May. Yay!

Here she is, all six pounds, eight ounces of her.

She has teensy little footsers…

and hands….

and I think her little ears are awfully cute too.

This is not a large chair…it’s just a one-person sized section of a couch, and she doesn’t exactly fill it up. I love how small she is!

I think I like taking pictures of newborns. Much easier than taking pictures of two-year olds!!

I forgot about these.

These are some pictures I took at Mr. Adorable’s house last week, but they don’t have Mr. Adorable in them, and so I’d forgotten to post them.

I thought his jackets were cute, hanging up in a row.

My mom will like this picture, I think…my siblings and I all had one of these bears when we were little. This particular bear belonged to Mr. Adorable’s dad when he was a kid.

And lastly, Mr. A’s dresser. :)
